Why use a steamer?
We recommend all our customers to use a steamer to remove wrinkles on their silk blouses. With a steamer you don’t need to worry about burn marks or hard creases, and it’s portable so you can bring it in your suitcase. Did you know that a steamer doesn’t only remove wrinkles? The hot steam kills 99,9% of the bacteria on your clothes and removes unwanted odor, which means that you do not need to wash or dry clean your garments as often. It’s easy to use and you do not need an ironing board, a true win-win situation.
Silk is one of the most exclusive materials you can possibly wear. It has an amazing finish and falls beautifully on the body at the same time as it is both timeless and luxurious. One of its many other strengths is also the fact that silk is a breathable material, which means that you don’t have to wash it every time you have worn it.
Silk is although a fragile material that needs some love and care. To keep it in a great condition and make it last as long as possible we recommend you to dry-clean it or hand wash it. When hand washing your Ahlvar piece it is important to use a detergent free from enzymes, preferably a silk detergent or a special detergent for fine and fragile items (ordinary detergent damages the fat that gives silk its soft feeling). Another tip to prevent your piece from damage is to use a washing bag when washing your item in the hand-washing program on your washing machine.
We are also recommending you to avoid the flatiron and instead invest in a steamer.
When using a flatiron you are risking to burn and damage the silk, but with a steamer you are able to steam your items directly on the hanger. It is both easy, time saving and gives a great result. Did you also know that 99,9 % of the bacteria are killed when steaming? Another reason that makes steaming a great complement to ironing and washing.
After washing, silk loses up to 5 % of its size but if you steam it afterwards it will return to its original shape.
Handle it with care and it will last a lifetime.
